What to Expect after using Ulike‘s Air 3 At-Home IPL Hair Removal Device?
The human body always responds to things differently, and when it comes to skin and hair conditions, this could not be further from the truth.
Similarly, how an at-home IPL device interacts with your hair depends on a number of factors, such as the hair density, the hair growth cycle, the type of hair, the surrounding skin tone, and many others.
I decided to probe and understand the efficacy of one of the most popular IPL hair removal devices to show you what you might expect. I studied the clinical trial for Ulike’s at-home IPL Hair Removal device.
Clinical Trial: IPL At-home Hair removal device versus Control
The study was conducted on 33 Asian adults, and the factors evaluated before and after repeat applications of the IPL Hair removal device for 28 days included:
- Hair Count,
- Average Hair Length,
- Hair Density (Hair %)
- and Safety.
Results
Researchers found a significant difference after using the IPL at-home removal device, with approximately.
- 63% decrease in the hair count
- 88% decrease in the average hair length and
- 93% decrease in the hair density
An independent group of dermatologists assessed the results and evaluated the safety after the treatment.
Throughout the procedure, they watched for untoward skin reactions such as redness and blisters, commonly known side effects of at-home IPL devices. However, no adverse effects were noted throughout the study, and all the participants reported 100% satisfaction.
Discussion & My Impression on Ulike’s Air 3 IPL Device
The reason why I liked the conducted trial was because:
- Researchers assessed using a control for comparison of the effects and results. A control group always lets us understand whether the results were due to the device usage.
- Also, the area treated was the lateral forearm. In my experience, this is a tricky place since the resultant hair and skin color of the subjects can change based on the degree of sun exposure, as this is the most exposed area of the arm. However, the fact that they found a statistical difference in the treated area shows that external factors that might change based on individual exposures did not hinder the results.
I am hopeful in the future; they will conduct further trials to evaluate the results across different skin types and different areas of the body as well.
Key takeaway points were that Ulike’s IPL Hair removal device inhibited hair growth significantly without adverse effects. The significant advantage is probably the built-in sapphire cooling technology, which makes using the device very safe. Many IPL devices in the market are not FDA-approved and are known to cause burns.
Remember to perform a patch test before trying any new product and get one that is FDA-cleared and has a credible history. This will allow you to see how your skin reacts and make an informed decision before subjecting a larger area to it.
Also, always consult your dermatologist or healthcare provider before trying new treatments.
Important Note: The above information is based on the report submitted by the company for my perusal and is my honest interpretation of the findings.

I have been wanting a permanent hair removal method and was contemplating using an IPL device or going to my Derm. Thank you for your insight on this device. I will look into it.
Hi Karen, I am glad I was able to give some clarity. There is a difference between the laser device used at your Derm’s office and an at-home hair removal device. They have their pros and cons. It is worth considering either if you wish to achieve permanent hair reduction.
