Conquering Eczema with Jennifer Roberge
“There is no greater warrior than a mother protecting her child.“
True, isn’t it?
This week, I want to introduce you to Jennifer Roberge. In addition to being a wonderful human being & friend, she is the mother of two, the founder of The Eczema Company and the award-winning blog ‘Its An Itchy Little World’.
My tryst with Jennifer was rather coincidental. I was in search for a natural and clean skincare line specifically catering to dry skin conditions to take care of my little one’s skin needs along with trying to provide a valuable resource for hundreds of kids who are part of our lovely Baby SkinWiseβ’ community.
Propelled to find a solution for her sonβs struggles with eczema, Jennifer has established herself as the go-to resource for eczema. After years of researching the best products for eczema, she created YoRo Naturals, skin care for sensitive skin.
Jennifer’s story is inspiring. I’ll let you read it firsthand.
“When I first discovered patchy red spots on my three-month-old son, Tristanβs, skin, I took him to
the pediatrician where he was diagnosed with mild eczema. But what started as mild, turned
moderate, and then severe as Tristan was covered head-to-toe in inflamed itchy skin by age three.
The trouble was finding treatments that worked for him. There were plenty of treatment options
out there, but many of them were less than adequate. Topical corticosteroids are the number one
recommended treatment for eczema, but when we tried steroid creams, I found Tristan kept
needing higher and higher potencies and that didnβt sit well with me. Continuously applying
steroids to my childβs already thin, broken skin didnβt seem like the best long-term solution in. This
is when I began to look into the root cause of eczema as well as natural remedies to find a solution
for Tristan.
After years of frustration and tears, seeing different doctors, trying various medications, natural
treatments, various elimination diets and supplements, I finally found the perfect combination to
help Tristanβs skin heal by 95%. We know everyoneβs skin is different and therefore eczema
triggers can be unique for each person as well. But for Tristan, what we found was that he was
sensitive to a host of foods. Once we eliminated those foods, prevented him from scratching day
and night and found some good natural emollient to keep his skin moisturized, thatβs when
Tristanβs skin started to improve drastically.
Through years of trial and error and research, somehow I, as a mother with no previous eczema
experience, had become an βexpertβ on natural solutions to treat the discomfort of eczema. When
I realized this, it was a bit shocking. I had gone from working in corporate marketing to parenting
and then suddenly I was thrown into the world of itchy skin and Iβd come out a champion for
holistic health and natural eczema care.
With all that knowledge under my belt, I decided to help other parents get through what was the hardest point in my life, and likely theirs as well, managing our childrenβs severe eczema. In 2011, I launched The Eczema Company online, a trusted source for natural eczema treatments that provide relief for babies, children and adults.
In addition to The Eczema Company, I created a blog, Itchy Little World, where I share my very
personal journey with eczema. Initially it started to connect with the eczema community, to
provide support and to vent my own frustrations and to share successes. It now has expanded to
include guest posts from health practitioners, insights into the different types of eczema, defining
various triggers and how to find relief and healing via natural means β with an emphasis on
treating the condition by recovering the body from within.
This all led to some very interesting feedback from customers and readers about products they
needed and couldnβt find. So I started YoRo Naturals, a brand that creates natural skincare and
clothing for sensitive, irritated skin. This is where we launched our now very popular Organic Manuka Skin Soothing Cream, which contains only six very natural, nourishing ingredients. And
based on customer demand, we debuted Remedywear, a clothing line made with TENCEL and anti-
inflammatory zinc that can be used for dry and wet wrapping.
In the end I am grateful for my sonβs eczema. It taught me how to read food labels, led me toward
whole food cooking and natural healthcare and inspired me to create a business helping other
people on their journey to skin health. I am so thankful for these great gifts.”
I know of hundreds of mama warriors who have fought their way through eczema with their children just like Jennifer did, and I am grateful that they trusted my advice along the journey. It is important to note that healing eczema goes beyond topical therapy, though I must admit, it plays a crucial role along with establishing a healthy gut-skin access. The Eczema Company offers natural eczema cream, eczema clothing, wet wraps for eczema, best laundry detergent for eczema and many more extremely useful resources to provide you or your little ones with some much needed eczema relief. Their Remedywear is extremely soft and soothing for an inflamed skin and I personally find it very useful.
