Homemade Hot Chocolate Recipe- Easy & Delicious
What is the 1st thing that comes to mind when you think of cozying up in winter?
Are you a Hot chocolate lover like me?
The French are known for consuming hot chocolate for generations now, and it is clear that they thrive off this drink. I came across a report that says 50% of the population starts their day with a cup of hot chocolate!
I am personally a Hot cocoa gal and prefer having it instead of regular coffee. Besides, it reminds me of the hot cocoa we were served after night games during our annual winter Girl Guide Camps. (I am a proud Rashtrapti Girl Guide from the 71st East Bombay Zoroastrian Girl Guide Group btw!)
But take a look at the ingredient list of one of the popular pre-packaged versions available in the store:
INGREDIENTS: SUGAR, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, VEGETABLE OIL (PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED COCONUT OR PALM KERNEL AND HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN), DAIRY PRODUCT SOLIDS, COCOA PROCESSED WITH ALKALI, AND LESS THAN 2% OF CELLULOSE GUM, NONFAT MILK, SALT, SODIUM CASEINATE, SODIUM CITRATE, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, SODIUM ALUMINOSILICATE, MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, GUAR GUM, ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS.
Need I say more?
So if you are looking to cut back on your caffeine intake or just want a better alternative… go ahead and make this delicious hot chocolate.
This homemade hot cocoa recipe is simply delicious and is made with real food ingredients. I make a couple of jars of this hot cocoa every winter.
This recipe also serves as a great holiday gift or just for keeping in your cupboard for cold days. It is just delicious! It will store for a few months in a covered container.
Ingredients
- 1 cup organic unsweetened cacao/cocoa powder (use dutch process cocoa for darker, richer cocoa but regular cocoa will work just as well)
- 2/3rd- 1 cup sugar or coconut sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
- 1 quart-sized Mason jar
Preparation
- Add the entire contents to a bowl and mix well.
- Store in a quart-sized Mason jar.
- For each serving, use 1/3 cup of hot cocoa mix and stir in 1 cup of hot milk.
- OPTIONAL: Top with whipped cream, and add a dash of organic Cinnamon or a drop of Peppermint essential oil. (As I always say, please make sure you source good quality essential oils before you add them to your cooking or DIY beauty recipes. I get mine from here & I am very happy with it)
Benefits of Cocoa
Cocoa is very rich in Magnesium and Tryptophan, in addition to theobromine. This contributes to the following notable benefits:
- Protects Your Heart
- Keeps wrinkles at bay
- Keeps Your Brain Sharper
- Helps your Gut
- Boost Your Sex Appeal
- Calms the nervous system
Research [1] shows that cocoa could help alleviate a stressful evening when combined with other superfoods. So if you are on the lookout to harness the soothing benefits of cocoa and turn it into a sleepy-time elixir to knock insomnia’s lights out… you can combine cocoa with these 100% organic ingredients:
- Reishi mushroom
- Lemon balm extract
- Turkey tail mushroom
- Piperine
- Acacia
- Coconut milk
- Cinnamon
- Turmeric
Note- Turmeric may stain your container, so try to use a glass container for preparation.
A Healthy alternative for Busy Bees
It might get a little difficult to accumulate good-quality ingredients individually. I personally prefer having a spoonful of Organifi superfood chocolate powder to get the benefits of all these superfoods in one go.
This superfood chocolate powder makes healthy and delicious hot chocolate! I must admit it tastes AMAZING. It’s warm and chocolatey, and you feel great when you drink it!
Enjoy!
Take care and Stay Blessed ?
