Zoroastrian Matrimony with Mrs. Roshan Rivetna
If you are a Zoroastrian single or know someone ready to mingle, then read on my friend.
It is with pleasure that I introduce this week’s member spotlight- Mrs. Roshan Rivetna. My tryst with Roshan aunty began when I learned that she was a pioneer in Zorastrian matchmaking for all those settled in the North American Community. Today she is revered throughout the world and I’m sure my gratitude and blessings are joined by hundreds of other Zoroastrian boys and girls who have received Roshan aunty’s sincere and painstaking efforts in finding a suitable match.
Mrs. Roshan Rivetna is deeply committed to perpetuating the Zoroastrian religion, customs, and traditions in the diaspora.
Perhaps she is best known for her stewardship of FEZANA Journal, a fledgling newsletter in 1991 to a world-class publication where each issue is a keepsake edition on some aspect of the Zoroastrian religion and community.
Her efforts at bringing Zoroastrian singles together began with the βMatrimonialsβ column in the FEZANA Journal three decades ago, and continues to this day, offering thumbnail sketches and contact information for Zoroastrians from Karachi to Sydney, from Manhattan to Mumbai.
She has also been featured in an article: ‘Matters of Heart and Faith Guide a Zoroastrian Matchmaker’- in the Valentineβs Day issue of The New York Times [February 7, 2009].
What strikes out remarkably, is that she shares her passion for helping Zoroastrians find their soulmate with utmost sincerity and compassion.
All those who have been blessed to have her acquaintance, know just how meticulously she sorts through her entire database selflessly, spending hours on end at times, to find someone according to your preferences.
She has never even considered charging for her services. βWhen a match is made,β she says, βIβm amply rewarded.β
Just so that you know, Roshan aunty is a scientist professionally. She has a Master’s degree in Nuclear Physics from the University of Pittsburgh and is also a talented artist. Since retirement from her professional career, in 2000, and prompted by her commitment to perpetuating Zoroastrian customs and traditions among the next generation of Zoroastrians — Mrs. Rivetna has turned her attention to developing her artistic and culinary talents.
With her extensive collection of stage decorations, mandap accessories, silk flowers, and her talent for flower arrangements, Roshan aunty (and her husband Rohinton) are often called upon to help decorate for navjotes, weddings, and special events, with hars, bouquets, chalk-toran, centerpieces, etc.
Over the last few years, she has developed her love for sweets and snacks β into her βbusinessβ (more a hobby) — βBadam-ni-Boi & Moreβ now also known as the βParsiMithaiShopβ.
So, if ever your taste buds want a nibble at her delicious βBadam-ni-Boiβ (an Almond Marzipan fish) and other delicious goodies,
or…
If you feel the onus of passing down the delectable genes that you have been blessed with… and are serious about settling down with a like-minded, sweet Bawa/bawi, then feel free to contact Mrs. Roshan Rivetna. [[email protected]; 630-340 8272]
I remember Roshan aunty exclaiming very innocently once- ‘My matchmaking success rates are not as high as I would like them to be’.
This got me thinking.
The youth today when asked for their feedback, exclaim more often than not, that the spark during the first few interactions is missing. I can only tell out of the experience, that the spark and attraction that the entertainment industry has impregnated our minds with, sure do come…but in its own time.
What is important is to establish a basic foundation of good character, beliefs, and values in the opposite sex… the evolution of infatuation to love and being soulmates for life is an eventual outcome.
Someone rightly said-
So, what are you waiting for?
There are many angels like Roshan aunty who are carrying out the noble work of getting our youth together.
As a community, we have been blessed with great genes and a lineage that we are extremely proud of. To follow “Boonak Pasbani” ie. preservation of our forefather’s proud lineage, has been mentioned in our scriptures as well.
Besides it is a blessing to come home to your loved one after a hard day’s work… to share your highs and lows together… to know you have the liberty to love someone one moment and hate the very other… to be fully seen by somebody, in all your vulnerable moments…unjudged… and then, be loved anyhow—-this is a human offering that can border on miraculous.
I earnestly wish that everyone meets their special someone and that they live together healthy and happily ever after, even when one’s hair might turn grey and teeth might fall off.
Mark Twain once said- βTo get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.β
Atha Zamyat Yatha Afrinami, May it be so as we wish.
